This techniqe is not new by a far shot-it has been around before windows way back to the 70's and 80's and is still used today by forensics specialists that are fluent in Linux and Unix OS'S. ![]() I have found that that little dd command can be quite usefull as far as security as well as unerasing and cloning hard drives unlike windows where you have to have a full blown prog running a fat overbloated GUI. ![]() This will fill up EVERY SINGLE SECTOR with 00000000000000000000000000įrom beginning to end there is a little more you can add to that comand if you want it to overwrite more than once dd if =/dev/urandom of=/dev/hda this will take much longer but will render the HD full of gobblygook if your willing to learn Linux. ![]() In a root shell when loaded up you can type dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda Secure Erasure of magnetic/Mechanical storage.įor Data erasure i use a little OS called Knoppix 3.7
